The Great mother remembers

And when our bottles and all we
are fill’d with immortality,
Then the holy paths we’ll travel,
strew’d with rubies thick as gravel.

In the Source, Hoxton is a Disciple of the Hand and Land. He originally lived in Doma where he was born and raised, but following the rebellion crushed by the XIIth Legion led by Zenos yae Galvus, he, along with many other Domans, went into exodus from the country and fled the country, coming to the city-state of Ul'dah seeking refuge.Following the negotiations permitting the refugees entry and work, Hoxton put his efforts to earning bread and coin as a Disciple of the Hand and Land. There in Ul'dah he cultivated the local trades to earn enough gil to move on out from the city and strike out in Eorzea.Though understandably homesick, he's accustomed very well to his new home. Even following Doma's liberation with the help of the Warrior of Light, he opted to remain in touch with Eorzea, making only personal trips to Doma as a yearly ritual. He spends much of his time between Ul'dah and Limsa Lominsa. He only makes rare trips to Gridania or Ishgard, usually when prompted by an order or at the request of others. He's grown an affinity for chocobos, and most of the horsebirds have a naturally friendly disposition to him. He took advantage of this trait to take on the role of stablehand for more than one occasion. He is not entirely helpless; he picked up the Pugilist trade from his time in Ul'dah for the sake of defense as a Disciple of the Land. He prefers, however, to keep his protection to the hands of actual professional escorts or sellswords.

Trivia

- His Doman name is Senri (千人). When he reached Ul'dah, he adopted an Eorzean name.
- Though capable of all crafting disciplines, he has a strong affinity for weaving, leatherworking and culinary work.
- He naturally holds a strong dislike for both the Doman viceroy Yotsuyu and of the Empire in general.

Hoxton is a Long - an immortal - favored by the Ring-Yew and the Red Grail. Once formerly upholding a uninspiring position as a hospital porter, his life was changed when he came to deliver a letter to a man on his deathbed. Now, he is the proprietor and owner of Red Cup Publishing, a publishing office that publishes esoteric, sometimes dangerous material.

Design

Personality

Hoxton's personality is as turbulent and untamed as the ocean waves, swinging from one mood to another in moments. As a Long of the Red Grail, his most defining personality traits are extreme hedonism, a natural aversion to restrictive relationships, and fits of unaccountable urges of both appetite and desire alike. When called to action, he is lethal levels of focused and determined. He usually views direct confrontation as unwise, but when it comes to a struggle, he is as merciless as he is dangerous: extremely.

"Hours don't dream. Long try not to."

The Long are those among the Know who have achieved immortality—either by transforming or discarding their physical forms—through their dealings with the Mansus. Hoxton is one of the Long, through secret liaisons with the Ring-Yew and the Red Grail.Long are fiercely powerful in the waking world. Even the otherwise ruthless occult underground—the Reckoners—avoid associating with the Long, fearing that entering the attention of the Long would spell annihilation.Even the strongest or most dangerous humans grouped together stand no chance of facing down a single Long in combat. The power of the Long is such that even the Mansus' spiritual beings would not willingly stand against them.Long are also psychologically strong; having spent time in the summit of the Mansus, where the light of the Glory is closest, they are intimately aware of the course and matter of the Histories. Further, they are talented in the invisible arts and defenses against them, and constantly refine both through an immortal lifetime of experience and study.

"I only wish he were out for my blood.
I will be lucky if he leaves even that much of me."

The Reckoner Mob is, essentially, a group of occult gangsters. Like typical mobs they will traffic guns, drugs, or prostitutes, but unlike the others, Reckoners also deal in the most precious and rare commodity in the world: life. Years, or even decades, of life apportioned and marked down in the Madrugad's Cindered Tally.Through the consumption of Stolen Years, a sort of quasi-immortality can be achieved, using them for eternal youth, or regeneration from crippling or grievous injury.
For this reason, Reckoner Lords—the Reckoner equivalent of a don or kingpin—who can armor themselves with Stolen Years could be considered as dangerous as the Long in direct conflict.
However, in the invisible world, Reckoners are small fry. They fear the Long or their masters, knowing that they would bring swift annihilation to the Reckoners if provoked. But some especially crafty Reckoner Lords can maintain some truck with the Hours, and be all the more stronger for it.
